Before there was this guy…
There was a Wong Fu Productions fan at UC Berkeley, but I’ll get to that story later. For now, let’s take a fun trip down memory lane of all the roles our good friend Ki Hong Lee played in WF’s past work.
Take It Slow
Ki Hong’s first appearance in a Wong Fu video, playing an awkward-turned-charming teenager. The extra chubbiness made him look more like a high schooler. Fun fact, this was also our first time working with Victoria Park, who is in our upcoming movie!
Away We Happened
A few months later, we brought him back for our big web series “Away We Happened” as a wannabe player who knows way too much about stalking girls online!
This Is How We Never Met
That one time he tried to smell a girl fart.
To Those Nights
Another quick cameo here in the early scene playing a very convincing drunk friend.
She Has a Boyfriend
Bringing him back as the lead, KH was awesome in this short which now has over 4 million views!
The Best Third Wheel In the World
Probably my favorite cameo. Look who’s getting shot by a blowdart. (I just liked it because I got to kill, then hug him)
There’s a ton more WFWeekends and BTS videos with this guy, but that’s just because Ki Hong became one of our very good friends. And it all started with a random trip to the theater to watch a local play. It was called “Wrinkles” and I went with KevJumba to see it. In the show was a really talented (good looking, haha) guy playing the teenager in a family. After the show we were introduced and seeing that he was a really nice guy I knew that he’d be great for a project sometime. A few months later “Take it Slow” was being prepared and I emailed him, he was down, and that began the chain of all these videos. The really funny thing is, he actually emailed us a year prior inquiring about acting possibilities, but we must’ve missed it. Even crazier, in 2007, when Wong Fu was touring our student movie “A Moment with You”, we had a show at UC Berkeley. There were several hundred students there, but apparently Ki Hong asked a question during the Q&A about how to act in one of our shorts. It wouldn’t be until 5 years later that it would happen.
Life is crazy, so many twists and turns. After all these “random at the time” events, we now get to see him in a major motion picture and we couldn’t be happier for him and his future. Congrats Ki Hong! You deserve it. And to everyone reading… go watch and support Ki Hong in “The Maze Runner”, in theaters now!

The next person who makes a joke about my pole dancing and calls me a stripper, I’m going to show them this photo and say, “You may or may not take me seriously, but just know that I can probably crush your tiny little skull with my thigh muscles.”

There’s nothing I don’t love about this.

medievalpoc:

Over 700 Jefferson County High School students are staging walkouts and protests over proposed changes to the Advanced Placement History curriculum. According to Colorado Public Radio:

Last week, a school board member proposed that advanced placement history classes be required to promote free enterprise and patriotism and be required to avoid classroom materials that encourage social strife or civil disobedience. Two high schools in Jefferson County closed Friday after dozens of teachers called in sick in protest.

According the online petition to be delivered to the School District:

Jeffco Public School Board has just proposed a change of curriculum stating that, “Materials should not encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law. Instructional materials should present positive aspects of the United States and its heritage.”

This means that important parts of our history such as the Civil Rights Movement, Native American genocide, and slavery will not be taught in public schools. If these important lessons are not taught, children will not learn from them, and what will stop them from happening again? This is a severe form of censorship intended to keep the youth ignorant and easy to manipulate. I’m hoping to get enough signatures to prove that this is a public issue, so, please, if this is important to you, please sign. Do not let our youth grow up in ignorance; we all deserve the truth!

You can sign the petition here.

You can read more articles at The Denver Post, CBS Denver (with video), and Colorado Public Radio.

I feel like very few, or at least not many of the people of tumblr are aware of what is going on in my home country Hong Kong right now.

You guys gave alot of coverage and support when Scotland was voting for its independance, so I’m hoping you’ll all support the people of Hong Kong as well.

Right now, many of us are in a mass demonstration of pro-democracy against China. But wait a sec, isn’t Hong Kong China? This is a big misconception amongst foreigners, but please, we are far from being similar to China at all.

A little history class: Hong Kong used to be colonized by the British, and before you white-knights begin going all “them damn white racist ppl taking over another asian country” please don’t. We are thankful Britain took us under its wing and instilled in us values that I feel made us what we are today; that is, a democratic people with respect for free speech, amongst many things.

On the other hand, China is communist, with government controlled media and news. Google, instagram, facebook and many tv shows are blocked in China. It really is just a few steps from North Korea imo.

So what’s the problem here? Britain unfortunately had to hand back Hong Kong to China, but one of the requirements is that Hong Kong be allowed to operate as ‘one country two systems’, meaning Hong Kong should be able to have its own democratic government. But China has broken its promise. A while back, China tried to put a mandatory ‘national education’ curriculum in all our primary schools. We all know what that is; a communist brainwashing regime. And now, they have announced that in 2017 Hong Kong will be able to vote for its president; BUT only from 3 candidates hand picked by its PRO-BEIJING legislation.

As you can see, China is trying to takeover completely and turn us into another communist state.

Of course, we have taken to the streets. In a mirror if the Tiananmen protests, students have also stepped up to fight for our rights and our future, albeit in a peaceful protest of course. But the police force who have always been a friend of the people, are now responding with force, something that had never been done before in Hong Kong.

First it was pepperspray, then teargas. Then, armed forces came in qith rubber bullets. They warn they will come out with live ammunition soon if we do not get off the streets but the people continue to sit tight, disrupting businesses China so strive to takeover and make use of. It’s been 2 days now, but the people plan to continue at least till 1st October or even beyond. The significance is that October 1st is China’s National day, not ours, Hong Kong has not been granted it’s own National day.

Please spread the news. This is a country we’re talking about. These are my people.

You can join this event to wear yellow in support of my people on October 1st.

You can also read a more detailed explanation of what’s going down here and watch a live feed here.
